The Mexican Museum of Design (MUMEDI)

Museum of Design

With a popular cafe and shop, the Mexican Museum of Design (MUMEDI) is already one of the most visited sites on Avenida Madero. And just off the Zócalo, it’s good for an afternoon, or just to while away an hour in the shop.

MUMEDI is a project conceived by the designer, Álvaro García Rego. His intent was to provide permanent support to the Mexican graphic and industrial design worlds, with front door access to the national and international scenes.

Today, the space allows visitors to immerse themselves in the world of design, acquaint themselves with some of the most important designers, and to see and even purchase some of the cleverest items.

The museum includes sections on Typography, Object Art, Poster Design, Photography, Illustration, Industrial Design, Interiors, Jewelry, Toys, and Fashion. Temporary exhibitions dip into all of these and other areas.

The site also includes the Design Hotel Mumedi, a hotel of just six suites, distributed within the 400 year old building. Each suite was uniquely designed and decorated in a style that combines the old with the modern. Just a few steps from the Zócalo, it’s a good place to get a taste of the city with all the style and comfort of the contemporary world.
