Galería Vórtice is one the Colonia Roma’s better known art galleries. Having opened more than ten years ago, it’s as an independent space for promote contemporary painting, graphic arts, and especially printmaking by local and international artists. The space also holds frequent printmaking workshops and artists-in-residence programs. They also conduct direct sales. In the words of the gallerists:

“Galería Vórtice came about under the premise of exhibiting pictorial works and presenting these to the city’s artistic circles as independent ideas. These are open to the creative freedoms and coexistence among artists.”

The gallery has presented the work of great Mexican artists like Pedro Friedeberg, Francisco Toledo, and José Luis Cuevas. They’ve also presented the the work of younger artists from many different cities in the country; Mario Várguez from Mérida, Yucatán, Juan Gorupo from San Luis Potosí, and Antonio Loza Hecht from Guadalajara, Jalisco, just to mention a few.

Any visit to the Galería Vórtice is a good chance to get to know the other galleries and museums located in the same neighborhood. There are many. Just a block north of the Avenida Álvaro Obregón thoroughfare, there’s a lot in the neighborhood to see and do.
