Manuel Tolsá Museum

 

Within the Palacio de Minería, a museum dedicated just to the legacy of Manuel Tolsá has been open just since 1999. was installed in the Mining Palace, whose works are firmly linked to the sculpture and architecture of the 18th and 19th centuries.

    • Conclusion of 240 year project of the Metropolitan Cathedral, including the statuary, cupola and facade. He finished only in 1813.

    • Unrealized projects for a bull ring, the palace of the governor of Durango, a cemetery, a convent, etc.
    • Celda de la Marquesa de Selva Nevada in the Ex convento de Regina Porta Coeli. Now is the Celda Contemporánea in to Universidad del Claustro de Sor Juana (Cloister of Sor Juana University) in Mexico City.

In the museum today as in that initial are examples of his creativity: sculptures, plans, ornamental objects, academies, models of the most relevant civil works, next to the works of some of his disciples as well as other teachers of the Novohispana Academy.

In addition, portraits of characters of the time are exhibited, among others that of Manuel Tolsá himself, made by the Valencian Rafael Ximeno y Planes, director of painting of the Royal Academy of the Three Noble Arts of San Carlos of New Spain.

Wednesday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Final Wednesday of each month from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Admission is mx$20.
