En 2013 cumplió 200 años de haber sido construido. Es un edificio de estilo neoclásico; el más representativo del tema en toda América. Fue planeado y construido de 1797 a 1813 por Manuel Tolsá, un arquitecto y escultor valenciano, para que fuera la sede del Real Seminario de Minería. Las áreas más destacadas son la Antigua Capilla, el Salón de Actos, el Salón del Rector, el Salón del Director, la Galería de Rectores, la Biblioteca y el Museo Manuel Tolsá. No sólo es un palacio por su arquitectura, detalles y decoración, sino una apuesta por la cultura en donde se llevan a cabo actividades para todo tipo de público.
