It is located in the northeast of the Centro Histórico, in a neighborhood known as Del Carmen. This place was used every day by the inhabitants of the area, from the time of Porfirio until the mid-twentieth century, it is specifically visited by students and academics.

In the center of the square is a statue of Antonio Caso, a member of the Ateneo de la Juventud and former rector of UNAM. On the edge of the square there is also the Student House Jose Yves Limantour, where Fidel Castro, Che Guevara, Antonio Mella and Tina Modotti have passed.
