Mixcoac

Historically, Mixcoac included the neighborhoods of Nonoalco, San Juan, Extremadura Insurgentes, Mixcoac, and Insurgentes Mixcoac. Part of the Benito Juárez alcaldia, what we're calling Mixcoac here includes some of all of them.

The Avenida Patriotismo, with the Metro of the same name at the very top, leads down through the heart of Mixcoac.

"Snake in the cloud," the meaning in Nahuatl, Mixcoac history goes right back to the conquest, and somehow the area still has something of a rural and agricultural soul.

Among the oldest parts of Mixcoac, the Church of Santo Domingo de Guzmán was founded in 1595 (by Franciscans) in the neighborhood today called Insurgentes Mixcoac.

By the end of the 19th century, it was a wealthy and distant suburb. The 20th century may have been a bit less kind, but today you'll see that many of the corners and streets and places are just as well loved.
